- Kolio Plachkov has won a one-year position as the new Associate Principal/3rd Horn of the Colorado Symphony. Kolio was born and raised in Bulgaria, and is a graduate of The Juilliard School.
- Congratulations to Rachel Childers (former Assistant Horn of the Colorado Symphony) on her new position as Second Horn of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
- UNC Horn News - Mountain Peak Music has published two books of Daily Routines for Horn Players by Grammy winning hornist and UNC Professor of Horn, Marian Hesse. Each book includes 8 Daily routines, one for each day of the week and a bonus routine for variety. Important aspects of playing are covered each day, with a focus on one aspect (articulation, lip slurs, etc) each day. The books, Daily Routines for Student Horn Players and Daily Routines for Horn Players, are available through mountainpeakmusic.com. Professor Hesse recently returned from a one week State Department tour with the Chestnut Brass Company to El Salvador. - Recent graduates of the University of Northern Colorado have moved on in their studies to other outstanding music programs. Mike Walker is currently working on a doctorate at Indiana University in the studio of Jeff Nelson and has been engaged as second hornist in the Columbus, Indiana symphony orchestra. Scott Hoehn is working towards his MM degree at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore. Charlotte Harsha was accepted into the studio of Eric Ruske at Boston University and is starting on her Master’s degree. Furher afield, Taylor Townsend was accepted into the horn studio of David Johnson (of the American Horn Quartet) in Lugano, Switzerland and is studying horn, natural horn, descant horn and Wagner tuba. Jason Johnston (MM ) is Professor of Horn at the University of Wyoming and Rebecca Shaffer (DA) is in her third year at Luther College in Iowa.
